The decadence of Nigerian education as regard it’s major decaying factors are examination malpractice, sorting analysis (Runz) and special centres for examination. The cry of Nigerian citizens and it’s government on the level of unemployment and poor academic performance today may be likely associated, or attributed to these aforementioned factors. This means that the original aim of Western education has been bastardized after seeing the quality of the graduates and employers produced in Nigeria these days.
Firstly the issue of special centre for the senior secondary students, this on its own has contributed greatly to the depreciation of the education values whereby students of that level are no longer interested In studying hard in other to pass olevel exams unlike the old times when an olevel graduate you are qualified to work as a clerk in big companies and government agencies because of the high level of mental capability. But now, failure and incompetency are the other of the day and the reason is not far-fetched even though the government has their own role to perform by providing enabling environment and social amenities because you cannot give what you don’t have.
A good number of our olevel graduates can’t speak correct English and these issues that have contributed to this decadence.
Secondly, one that is like it is that after settling for a special centre which can also be called killing centre because it kills the potentials of these young boys and girls and make them vision-less, lack ambition, lack focus and above all, it aborts the hope of the next generation on getting a good and solid education and these students tend to be interested only in certificate and conclude “after all Nigeria is only interested in our certificate” if this statement is true ask people who have made if truly to the top of it was only certificate.
However, there is a big difference between a student that studies and the one who does not. It may seem not to be totally coming forth, but the fact is that the brain capability of th two of them cannot not be the same. Unlike the other set who are only are dependent on the available resources and because naturally they are lazy they cannot think on their own and give possible solutions to problems. Unfortunately they are the majority and out of millions that graduates each year, they have the highest percentage.

1. Socio-political influence:
The society we are now is contributing greatly directly or indirectly to the problem. To talk about few, almost every youth now wants to become a politician not because of passion or good ambition, but out of selfish interest, they are seeing the post as z opportunity to create wealth for themselves. The society has given much freedom to the child by making it a law that every 18years and above child can live without parents supervision and most of the students we have in tertiary institution are within this age bracket.
2. Parental influence:
Parents attitude towards their children’s education and welfare has depreciated, we now have a situation where parents find it difficult to buy books for their children, and they don’t supervise the child’s performance, because they are busy. They leave the child to the school to look after, by taking them to hostel/boarding houses. Some parents give money for their children for Runz and lastly most parents don’t check on their children after admission into th tertiary institution.
3. Peer Group:
‘Everybody is doing it’ this is one of the contributory factor because most times’ people whom you thought would have nothing to do with this are th major players, so a child is pressured to follow suit.

A. Give your life to Jesus and accept him as your personal lord and saviour.
B. Discover your talents and develop them.
C. Develop your reading culture and time management.
D. The Nigerian national orientation agency should find a way to reorient the youths.
E. Believe in hard work and be diligent.
F. Keep good company.
G. Parents should encourage good moral and self-dependent attitude, in their children especially in everything.
G. Watch and pray.
